Open teaching positions

Question: Just would like an explanation of the new positions posted on the district website. Are there teachers leaving or retiring? It doesn't make sense to me after hearing about layoffs.

Answer: Yes, some members of the faculty and staff are retiring or leaving for other jobs and the district needs to fill those positions. We are also hiring some new teachers to teach some of the new programs we're putting in place for the 2012-13 school year as part of our process of re-imagining Broadalbin-Perth. In all, we did see a net loss of 5.7 full-time equivalent (FTE) teaching positions, which will save the district approximately $332,000 during the 2012-13 school year.
