What is the median household income in the Broadalbin-Perth School District?

Question: At the May 9 budget forum, an individual asked what the median household income is in the school district.

Answer: According to the U.S Census Bureau, the median household income in the school district is $48,195. The mean household income in the school district is $70,356.

The Census Bureau defines the median and mean as follows:

The median household income divides the income distribution into two equal parts: one-half of the cases falling below the median income and one-half above the median. For households and families, the median income is based on the distribution of the total number of households and families, including those with no income.

Mean household income is obtained by dividing total household income by the total number of households.
